BEHIND THE ARTWORK - Q & A - WITH ALEXIS TORRES.

Q&A - BEHIND THE ARTWORK DIE ANOTHER DAY ALBUM COVER WITH ILLUSTRATOR ALEXIS TORRES

1. A Small job summary, what other jobs have you done?

In terms of visual arts, I always been interested in diverse amount of mediums and techniques. I was very lucky to grow up in a home where both my parents were artists so I always had the materials and supplies to play. But most of my experience has been drawing, illustration and sculpture. From illustrating children books to sculpting a few years for a jewelry company, I really had spend most of my professional career tattooing.

2. It is your first design for a rock cover album, how was the experience?

Yes, it is! And it was a lot of fun since I been admiring rock bands cover art since I was a kid. Rock culture had always had the biggest influence in my art. That with comic books and fantasy, science fiction…

3. What inspired you to create the cover album?

My main inspiration was the first talk I had with Red and Alejandro. From the very beginning they much agreed in what we will like to see in this project. And that was to introduce the tiger as a very strong character. We wanted everything to be bold and extremely vibrant. Pretty much lots of details, eye candy, very loud colors.

4. What jobs are you currently doing?

Im currently still tattooing mostly. Starting with a book illustration project. Planing to give some digital illustration clases. And hopefully more album art!

5. Do you have any other favorites of your work in illustrations and drawings?

One of my favorite things to illustrate will be the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. There are just so many great descriptions on his work (like the Lord of the Rings). Also I have a series of graphite drawing I been working since art school. It’s about these “time travelers” that move so slow that tiny civilizations grow around their heads to create like “constructed helmets” that are made of buildings. This drawings are some of my most detail and time consuming works I’ve done.

6. Did you use any techniques to create the RTB cover album?

It is the first project that I implemented the artificial intelligence tool. On the start for the brainstorming of ideas and compositions. The rest was left to real brain power.

7. What was it like working with Red and Alejandro?

Working with Red and Alejandro flowed so naturally that I felt we talk regularly. I know Red from high school so he is an old friend. But I met Alejandro for this project and talking to him was like I also knew him from high school. We all share similar backgrounds so it’s easy to communicate. I think the more ideas we threw on the table the more excited we all got. So it all build up in the best and free creative environment. They’re very cool, the best vibes!
